NOT Your Body, NOT Your Choice

Print Friendly and PDF

Last March, I posted this meme on’s Facebook page –

I think it’s great.  To the point.  Doesn’t leave much room for arguing (or so I thought).  And, it’s not even graphic!  If you type ‘abortion’ into any search engine, you’ll find horrifying (real) photographs that will make you never want to look at your tablet screen again.  But this?  This is just…the pro-life argument – plain and simple.

So, to my surprise, something happened a couple weeks ago.  This meme went viral from our page, and suddenly, I’m getting HUNDREDS of private messages, coming in by the second, saying that Facebook users reported this meme as inappropriate and offensive.  At first I thought, “This can’t be right…it must be one person spamming us.”  Then, one said, “I am offended by this and got all my friends to report you.”  So, this dude’s friends turned into about 30 million other-peoples’-friends.

And it wasn’t just one person spamming.  I have been reading personal messages from angry pro-choice people for weeks now – all centered around this meme and when I reposted it over the weekend, I set us up to, once again, be flooded with pro-choice hate.

I have been reading as many of these comments and messages as I can to try and understand how anyone could possibly have a ‘pro-choice’ mentality and belief system.

I usually tell myself and (desperately) hope that the pro-choice majority is full of ignorance.  As I thought, many are.  One Facebook user commented today, saying, “I love how the picture is of a fully developed baby– in an attempt to deceive people. Abortions occur when the mothers are carrying nothing more than a lump of genetic material. You guys are kind of psychos.”

Unreal.  That is the comment of a completely deluded and ignorant person.

Someone else posted this picture –

The oblivion is frightening.

Many pro-choice people will say that they’re good with first trimester abortions because of course they assume the fetus looks like the little spermy looking thing in that meme above.  But, in reality, a first trimester baby looks like this.

A little more sophisticated than a “lump of genetic material” if you ask me.

I don’t think the ignorant are the pro-life majority.  It’s devastating to see how many in our generation will embrace such evil under the guise of “freedom,” knowing full well what an abortion actually is.

On our Facebook page, those in favor of abortion who did not seem to be ignorant had their own little justifications.  One girl said that she had an abortion because had she not, she and the baby would’ve “definitely needed some therapy.”

Another person said that as long as the umbilical cord connects mom to baby, the baby’s not a person – even if it could be delivered healthy and fully developed.

Speaking for the Silenced

I read a Christian blog recently where a girl spoke against pro-lifers posting anti-abortion things on their pages because it might be insensitive to women who have had abortions.  Never in my life have I disagreed so strongly with someone’s blog post.  I might email her personally.

This isn’t something trivial that is worth sparing feelings over.  This is life and death.

It’s not insensitive or ‘un-Christian’ to defend a person’s life.  I’m a Christian – not that my faith has anything to do with being pro-life (I’d be pro-life even if I wasn’t religious), but I am.   I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and I believe that He forgives those who repent and seek Him.  He forgives women who have abortions and so should we – their sin is no worse than ours, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t speak up for the voiceless unborn victims in an effort to keep the peace.

It’s Not Your Body

No matter what situation a woman or teen finds herself in or how difficult her circumstances are, getting an abortion is not about a woman and her body.  It’s about a woman, her body, and another new human’s body – a new human with fingers and toes and a unique DNA…unique fingerprints…a person!  No matter how that person came to be or what they’re being born into, that is a person who deserves to live.

All the outrage over this Facebook meme has so stirred me, I’m going to keep sharing it so we can get as many eyes on it as possible.  I want all the people who are pro-choice out of ignorance to have light-bulbs go off.  Help spread the word by sharing informative articles and memes like this one in your circles.  We’d also love to publish your story if you’ve got some personal insight to share that will help further the pro-life cause.

Send your story to [email protected]

The real irony, a woman’s own body isn’t even hers to do with as she pleases:

“The earth is YHWH’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and THEY THAT DWELL THEREIN.” (Psalm 24:1)

    • David Sholes

And the Lord said that EVERY living soul belongs to Him. That would include the living child in the womb and the living woman who seeks the abortion. People miss the fact (or ignore the fact) that God has the absolute sovereign authority over all of creation. Yep, you and I were created by God. He uses our earthly parents to accomplish that, but in reality we belong to Him and He will do with us as He sees fit. God can close a womb or open a womb so that is why some women bear children and others don’t.

      • Ted R. Weiland

“Lo, children are an heritage of YHWH: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” (Psalm 127:3)

  • Anon Ymous

I am a biologist and I KNOW when “Life” begins. BOTH the sperm and the egg are alive by all measures of life recognized by the biological sciences. Ergo, “Life” doesn’t BEGIN at conception, it continues. But, if the “pro choicers” continue in their Intellectual Dishonesty, I would suggest the logical consequence of their world view. Expand the definition of the living who are subject to abortion to include all those up to age 35. If a man or woman has not demonstrated their ability to be a self-supporting, contributing member of society by age 35, abort them as mere parasites. That is the logical progression and consequence of the insistence that the fetus is of no value.

    • Aalenorah

I agree that the question of “life” is answered. The problem is the idea of “life” as sacred. Obviously all “life” as you/science defines it is not sacred. We show, every day, by our actions that life is not sacred… even human life. If “life” or even “human life” were the qualifier of value then we would be living in a very different world. The question here is power. The American abortion issue is only about power, not about preserving life. “Preserving life” is just the puppet string that the establishment has found to be most effective in motivating their minions.

    • 1ndependentOne

While I agree with what you say, Anon, be careful … there are certain advisers to certain administration officials who advocate for ‘abortion’ to children as late as age two. (Guess the name of the current-day Mengele.)

      • Anon Ymous

I would say that, with respect to the scenario I proposed above, newborns, children, adolescents and twenty somethings should be protected from abortion to give them time to get their feet under themselves, so to speak, but, if they cannot demonstrate between the ages of 30 and 35 that they have become self sufficient, productive members of society, at 35 they again become eligible for being aborted. Genuinely disabled people would not be subject to this system, only the able bodied.

  • Tommy

You believe you can change the mind of the willfully ignorant by trying to make your argument as simple as humanly possible. This is can not be, as liberals are ignorant by choice and wish to remain so as it makes it easy to live a life as they please unconcern with any accountability to higher power.

They find your meme offensive because they already know an abortion is murder. They know the unborn is more then a “clump of cells” and that they’ve made the decision to end that life in a complete contradiction to the very meaning of “pro choice.”

So I will make no excuse for liberals. I know that liberals are the very definition of hypocrisy, inequality, intolerance and contradictory. They are always completely aware of every word they speak, every action they take and every lie they post. They are liberals, hypocrites.

So I find your patience admiral but foolish. You can try to get them to understand reason but they will not. They’ve simple stopped listening. They’re willfully ignorant and wish to remain that way.

    • Amanda Miller

I do not know you, but I am going to claim to have the knowledge that you are ignorant, that in every discussion you have you are purposefully ill-informed. You see how pompous I sound claiming that? That is how you sound. Saying that every last person who is affiliated with a group, in your case “liberals”, is purposefully ignorant, contradictory and intolerant among other things, is ignorant. I don’t affiliate with any specific political group, but I’m not going to say that everybody who does affiliate with republican, conservative, democrat, or liberal is all wrong, and I am right. To do so is egotistical and ignorant.

    • Tanell Marie Donnell

There are some who are on the fence about abortions. Those people are usually watching, silently from the corner, watching prolife and prochoice advocates duke it out. What you say in that argument does matter. It may not sway the prochoicer, but it may sway the silent listener, and THAT is completely worth the fight.

  • Oldchopper

The word ignorant is used but the real evil in murder is sin and comes from the Devil himself. Remember who rules our world system. Cast from the garden in God’s perfect world man made the wrong decision then and continues to this day. In direct disobedience to Gods’ Word. The Word being the Truth.
You want to change the sinners mind? Get them to learn what their sin is by Gods Law (10 Commandments), know that Jesus Christ is God, repent and put their faith in Jesus.

    • Andrew Peck

You’re not going to change a non-religious person’s mind by spouting some bible verses. Be realistic, you have to argue on secular grounds in order to get somewhere with these people.

      • Oldchopper

We’ll not change the world on secular thinking. That’s why Christians are losing the battle on abortion, homosexuality and secular humanism. I have no power to change someone’s mind. I can only tell the truth. God does the change of heart.

        • Pax Humana

Shut up, Oldchopper! People do not want to listen to the Holy Scriptures, right as they may be, that is the Holy Scriptures. You have to know your audience! Did not Paul say as much in his Epistles? He said, “I am a Greek to the Greek, a Jew to the Jew, a publican to the publicans…” and so on and so forth.

  • sweetqueen777

If the pro-abortion folks are screaming, it i because you have struck a nerve. Keep up the good work!!! I used an old problem solving trick, many years ago,, to answewr the question of person-hood. You reduce any problem to its simplest components. What defines a person?? That would (scientifically) be it’s own DNA. PROBLEM SOLVED. Thus, by definition, abortion is any stage. You may still choose to do the act, but do not rationalize the sin.

  • Aalenorah

You miss the point. The point is that a person has autonomy over his or her body, including who is or is not allowed inside of it. If a woman does not want to house another “body” inside of her own body, then she doesn’t have to, and cannot be compelled to. Find a way for the fetus to survive outside of the woman’s body and you can have it.

    • leah

Gosh, it’s like a woman didn’t choose participate in any action that might make it at all likely for her to become pregnant. I hate it when a fetus just RANDOMLY APPEARS in my body, too.

    • GMA213

      Your “point” is specious.

    • Tanell Marie Donnell

When the woman chose to let a man enter her body, she gave up her choice to not let a fetus enter her body. We are making wonderful strides every day in the “artificial womb” world. Until then, keep your legs shut.

  • Amanda Miller

I want to point out that just because you are pro-life, does not mean that those who are pro-choice are ignorant. It means they have faced the same questions you have, and simply came to a different conclusion. Stating that those who disagree with you are “ignorant’ kind of makes it look like you are the one who is ignorant. Other then that, I disagree with you on this. I am a college student, a broke college student, if I got pregnant right now I’d end up on welfare, food stamps, Medicaid etc. because I wouldn’t have enough money to continue going to college, or take care of a baby. So if I got pregnant right now, I would have an abortion. I would not change my mind due to your feelings, or your opinions, since it would not affect your life in the slightest. If I were to decide to keep this baby due to you, here is how you could get me to do that. Pay me. Pay the medical bills I can not afford, buy baby clothes and baby food that I can not afford, pay the day care fees that I can not afford, pay me enough money so that I can continue to go to college until I graduate and can start paying for that stuff on my own, once I get a good paying job. If you are not willing to do this, then neither am I. I will not have a baby until I can financially support that baby. I am doing everything in my power to make sure I don’t have an unwanted pregnancy, but if birth control fails and I do get pregnant, who do you think you are that you feel you should make this decision for me? So either allow me to make this decision on my own, or pay all of my finances for me.

    • Carly Hill

      Adoption! Adoption! Adoption!

I have no doubts that people who can’t care for a baby get pregnant, but I know SO many personally who LONG to be a mother. All you have to do is tell the hospital you can’t care for the baby and they call someone on a waiting list…

That being said, there is no excuse to take a person’s life.. there’s no ‘different conclusion’ your side can have… Killing is killing. A baby is a person. It’s as simple as that.

I know what you’re saying though. On every other issue, I think the way you do – my brother is anti-gun. I’m pro-gun. But we both want to protect our kids – its two different opinions but we both want the same conclusion – safe kids.

But with abortion, its not an issue where I can say ‘agree to disagree’ – it’s murder and looking at it scientifically, there’s no way someone can deny that.

      • Amanda Miller

Do you know how many kids are in foster care waiting to be adopted? but wont because their not cute little babies, I will not have a kid and give them to people who refuse to adopt anyone in foster are. If every single pro life person would adopt one kid in foster care there would be no kids in foster care.

        • Tanell Marie Donnell

Do you know why those kids are in foster care, really? Many because their mother’s refuse to give up rights, even though they really should. Many because they are proctor care, not foster. Know the difference? Probably not, so I’ll tell you. Proctor kids are not in the system for their own good. They are their for everyone else’s. They have commited a crime, like rape, assault, grand theft. They are being rehabilitated. Of course the average Joe can’t and shouldn’t do that. You don’t get to kill your baby just because you want to spite someone for not wanting to take a troubled teen (who could be a danger) into their home. How freaking ridiculous is that? I wish I got to kill people out of spite… Make my life more pleasant….

          • Amanda Miller

If I were to have an abortion it wouldn’t be “to spite someone” It would be because:

            1. I am not ready to have a child emotionally/financially.
            2. I will not add to the numbers in foster care
            3. I was raped
            4. I would risk dying if I gave birth.
            5. The baby would have been born with a disease that would result in a short and painful life.

I have thought out all of those reasons, and I also realized I don’t want to have to go through an abortion. I will if any of those reasons happen, but that doesn’t mean I want to. Therefore I am being as careful as I can when having sex, but I know that accidents happen. Luckily it hasn’t so far.

    • John

Tell that to God on judgment day when he said he gave his sons life to give you yours. You don’t pick and choose only what feels good for you at the moment. If you want to play, then you have to pay. This is being an adult instead of a selfish child. Grow up before you die and are sentenced to hell. Today, and yesterday will fade away, but what lies ahead is what you need to think about. An excuse is an admission of guilt. God don’t compromise and buy excuses.

      • Amanda Miller

I am an atheist so that argument does not apply to me.

        • Pax Humana

It DOES apply to you, dumb ass!

    • Sharon

You always have the choice to not engage in sexual activity.

      • Amanda Miller

Telling someone to just stop having sex is unrealistic, asking them to be safe however is. Like I stated I do everything in my power to not get pregnant. It hasn’t happened, I don’t think it is going to happen, I was just making a hypothetical situation.

        • Tanell Marie Donnell

How is it not realistic? Don’t have sex til you are ready to have a baby. I did this. Worked great. Also meant I never needed an abortion. Never needed extra hormones raging through my body to cause issues and possibly effect my later fertility. If you can’t control yourself, that sucks, but it doesn’t mean you get to punish someone else for your self control problems.

          • Amanda Miller

It is unrealistic because we are human, we are hormonal and we don’t always think things through, ESPECIALLY teenagers. So just expecting them to “not have sex” is unrealistic.

I applaud your self restraint, not everyone has that, I know I don’t.

Having an abortion isn’t “punish someone else for your self control problems” It’s realizing you are not prepared to have a child, and making the painful decision not to.

    • Erin

Gosh, I remember being a broke college student. I knew there was no way I could support a baby then either. I solved that dilemma by not hopping in the sack with any of the guys I dated. No casual sex, waited until my wedding night. Problem solved. All six of my wonderful children were born to loving, married parents.

      • Amanda Miller

That was your experience and not one I would want to replicate. I am in a committed and loving relationship, and we have a sex life, and I am not going to stop because of your experience as a college student. I do not have the willpower to not have sex, and I do not want to stop having sex with my boyfriend and so I will not. I will however have sex with him as safe as possible, condoms etc. I also will not have more then 3 or 4 kids.

        • Tanell Marie Donnell

So, you get to kill a living being with a heartbeat because you have no willpower? I’m gonna go kill the cashier at McDonald’s because I gained 15lbs!

    • Tanell Marie Donnell

Here you go… You can’t afford a baby? DON’T HAVE SEX! Its that trick you learned in 6th grade health class! If you insist on having sex, use protection, and know that it will not be effective one in every 1000 times. So, when that time comes, you have made your choice. Get the medicaid and carry that baby, then surrender it to a family who will love it. If you can’t handle that, stop having sex. Pretty easy.

    • Pax Humana

Yes, you are ignorant, thank you, and so is Aalenorah. Now do you two not have kitchens to go into and sandwiches to start making?

  • Bob

Revelation of John 4.11 Thou art worthy, O יהוה, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Psalms 89.11 The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.

    Psalms 50
12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
16 But unto the wicked Elohim saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
17 Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.
18 When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.
19 Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.
20 Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother’s son.
21 These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
22 Now consider this, ye that forget Eloah, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

    Psalms 139
13 For Thou–Thou hast possessed my reins, Thou dost cover me in my mother’s belly.
14 I confess Thee, because that with wonders I have been distinguished. Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul is knowing it well.
15 My substance was not hid from Thee, When I was made in secret, Curiously wrought in the lower part of earth.
16 Mine unformed substance Thine eyes saw, And on Thy book all of them are written, The days they were formed–And not one among them.

    Exodus 21
22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

  • Billy Mullins

Here’s a question for the “pro-choice” folks. If it is, indeed, MY body and therefor MY choice, then who are YOU or anyone else to tell an adult what substances they may or may not introduce into their tender bodies by whatever means they see fit? At least in the example I cite only one person is being harmed. In the case of abortion, not only is the life of an innocent, unborn human being callously snuffed out, but the erstwhile “Mother” suffers both physical and psychological harm. I know a young woman who elected to abort a baby while in her teens. That was over 30 years ago and it haunts her to this very day. Additionally, to prevent miscarriages, she had to have the entrance to her cervix almost sewn shut with what is called “purse string sutures” in order to carry both of her children to term.

Abortion – the “gift” that keeps on giving.

  • pinksugar

But, But, But – if it saves just one child!
(Gun control GOOD – Abortion control – Bad.)
People who want to justify abortions just don’t want to have to see the LIFE of the baby or the FACE of the baby – that way it won’t seem real to them and they can just ‘make the problem go away..’ – The problem the baby created?? NO.. the baby doesn’t create the problem.. they are just the one who gets to PAY for it.

  • ligersaurus

One more time for those who missed it.

A woman has every right to treat her body any way she wants. However, the
little unborn life on the other side of her placenta is NOT her body. It is an
individual citizen with all the rights endowed to those who happen to have made
it out of the womb. A woman’s rights END at the placenta. She has NO right to
terminate the other life (lives) inside her. They just happen to be connected
to the life support system within her body but are citizens deserving all the
rights and benefits afforded any other (born) citizen. The unfortunate truth
that pro-choice types ignore is this: Abortion (especially casual or convenient
abortion) is 1st degree murder by the universal definition of willful, planned,
premeditated killing. The biological father is also just as culpable for the
    fate of the aborted life.

    If “pro-life” means “anti-choice”, does “pro-choice” mean “anti-life”?

  • Angie

Taiking into account all the ways of preventing pregnancy available , why do we need the option of abortion in the first place? Could it be that women don’t know how to prevent getting pregnant? I hope not. It takes two to create a child, but if a woman isn’t ready to have a child, it’s up to her to take preventative action. I have heard the argument that a fetus is not a child. If a fetus is not a child then it stands to reason that the woman is not pregnant.

    • Cheryl Poole

Please consider that with the “sexual revolution” women are sex objects even more than before the 60’s. Throw in the explosion of porn and the rise in the sex trade, there are some women who submit to being used either by social pressure, trickery or force. Unplanned pregnancies happen. Women are hurt, not helped, by the murder of the human life within them. It is one more step in devaluing a women; to rip up a woman’s body to destroy the inconvenient child, adding injury to sorrows. Pro-choice folks do not acknowledge this, either. They always portray it as a liberation or a right instead of the travesty that it is.

  • Eliott

I always hear from these liberal hypocrites that a baby in the womb is not a living thing. Well explain to me why in most states someone who murders a pregnant woman is charged with 2 counts of murder. I also find it ironic that libs are pro-abortion but against the death penalty.

  • libertycall

I am always shocked at how easily people justify murdering an unborn child and yet cringe at putting to death a murderer or rapist. Mothers are the only segment of the population who are granted the right to murder another human being without consequences. If they kill the rapist they are put in prison…but if they kill the baby, who is the most innocent party, well, hey, that’s OK.

  • MaDdD_dOGgG

Sure I’m Pro-Choice… as long as those choices are made prior to conception.

    • Tanell Marie Donnell

Exactly. Choose to not have sex. If you have no self control, choose birth control. If you still end up pregnant, choose adoption.

      • Pax Humana

Abstinence is the only form of birth control and all other ones are faulty, they do not work, and they are also causing abortions, period, full stop.

  • Shears_of_Atropos

This question has been around much longer than I have, but one way of dealing with it came generations ago. There is a term : “The quick and the dead”, an old way of saying ” the living and the dead”. Long ago, the unborn child was judged to be “alive”

when it “quickened”, i.e. kicked Mom to announce that things were going OK up to that point. Surprisingly enough, this was usually about the end of the 1st trimester. (What a coincidence!). By the time you reach 20 weeks, Mom is willing to swear that junior gets his kicks by tap-dancing on her liver.

No it’s not technical, only people trying to deal with the same problem we are arguing about. That said, it’s a pretty good place to start when the lefties start talking about killing at 20 weeks, or like Melissa Harris-Perry, after birth.

I ask: At what age does the premeditated killing of a human being become “murder”?

    • Tanell Marie Donnell

The baby has movements much earlier than when mom can feel them. So, that is moot.

  • Dave Bartholomew

The Question, of course, is when does life begin? The abortionists will claim life begins when the baby is fully emerged from the womb, umbilical cord cut, and child breathes unassisted. This is about 2 trimester later than SCOTUS decided decades ago.

I have asked Doctors from all sides of the argument, “What is the one thing that changes in the womb that creates/defines life? What suddenly appears on day 90 that wasn’t there on day 89?” Not one doctor, scientist, lawyer can give me an answer. So, my answer is the only choice left, life begins at conception.

Now, I am willing to agree that the Constitution grants us the “Right of Privacy”. Personally, I think we need to enforce that right a little bit more, against the IRS and Homeland Security. But, I wonder where is the right for freedom without consequences? I have freedom of choice, but not choices without consequences. There is nothing that prevents me from robbing a bank. That is my CHOICE. But, there are consequences. If caught, I go to trial, and face 25 years in prison.

Sex is a choice. There are consequences. Face those consequences, MEN AND WOMEN! That life belongs to both of you. This is such an apparent truth, I can’t believe anyone can argue against it. But of course they will.

    • Tanell Marie Donnell

I would say a heartbeat constitutes life. There are some laws going around to say that abortion would require an ultrasound before, and if there was a heartbeat, no go.

  • Ryan Jay E Chesley

Is it OK for me to steal a house and food from another person? if that Fetus is another person, why can’t one human (the female) deny having nutrients and housing stolen by another person (the fetus)?

  • SMB1128

Of course it’s her body and her choice. The fetus is just an extension of her body until it’s born, then it becomes it’s own body. Whoever created that meme is obviously logically impaired. If we start giving fetuses individual rights and forcing women to give up their bodily nutrients to further fetal development, maybe we should require them to pay rent for the womb space.
