Death: Retired Army General Schwarzkopf

Retired Army Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, who claimed his place in the history books for leading U.S. troops during the first Gulf War in 1991, has died. He was 78.

Schwarzkopf died Thursday in Tampa, Fla., where he spent his last military assignment as head of Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base. He was a fixture in Tampa but also had a vacation home on tony Fisher Island in Miami.
